The victim, a local man, reported his phone stolen by two individuals on a scooter. However, the investigation led by the South Delhi police uncovered a shocking twist involving the man’s wife.

The case began when the South Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ankit Chauhan, received a report on June 19 about a phone theft near the Old UK Paint Factory. The police promptly registered the case and launched an extensive investigation. By meticulously reviewing footage from 70 CCTV cameras in the vicinity, they identified one of the suspects wearing a blue t-shirt. Further analysis using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology revealed that the scooter used in the crime was rented for a day from Daryaganj.

The investigation took a dramatic turn when police traced the rented scooter to Balotra in Rajasthan’s Barmer district. There, they apprehended Ankit Gehlot, one of the accused. During interrogation, Ankit confessed that he was hired by the victim’s wife to execute the theft. The motive behind this orchestrated crime was to delete intimate pictures of her with her lover stored on her husband’s phone.

According to Ankit’s confession, the victim’s wife provided him with detailed information about her husband’s daily routine and office schedule to facilitate the theft. The police successfully recovered the stolen mobile phone and arrested both Ankit and the woman involved. Media reports suggest that the husband was aware of his wife’s affair and had transferred her compromising pictures to his phone while she was asleep. Fearing exposure to her family, she resorted to this drastic measure.
