A video capturing a woman’s accident during a Rapido ride in Delhi has gone viral, raising significant concerns about passenger safety on ride-hailing bikes. The footage, shared by Instagram user Priyanka, shows her losing balance and falling off the two-wheeler while filming herself mid-ride. This incident has sparked widespread discussion about the necessity for improved safety measures in app-based transportation services.
Priyanka alleged that the Rapido driver refused to provide her with a helmet and was not wearing one himself. She further claimed that the driver took reckless shortcuts, navigated sharp turns, and drove on the wrong side of main roads, causing her significant fear. To document these alarming experiences, she began recording the ride.
The accident occurred when the Rapido bike collided with another two-wheeler in front of a Delhi Police vehicle. Despite the presence of law enforcement, Priyanka claims they did not intervene. She ended up paying the injured driver before continuing her journey on foot. Priyanka criticized Rapido for hiring irresponsible drivers who compromise passenger safety.
In response to Priyanka’s post, Rapido stated they would not take action against the driver but offered assistance if she faced similar issues in the future. They emphasized their policy requiring drivers to carry helmets for both themselves and passengers, promising strict action against non-compliance. The video has ignited outrage on social media, with users expressing strong reactions. Comments highlighted the importance of mandatory helmet use and shared similar experiences of unsafe rides. Many urged Rapido to address these safety concerns promptly to protect passengers, especially women.
