Father Denies Rape Allegation Against IIM Calcutta Student

Father Refutes Rape Allegation

The father of an Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIM-C) student has publicly denied allegations that his daughter was raped. According to him, the incident involved his daughter falling out of an auto rickshaw, not a sexual assault. He shared that he received a call at 9:34 pm on Friday, informing him of his daughter’s accident and subsequent admission to the neurology department of SSKM hospital. The police reportedly rescued her and facilitated her hospital admission.

Daughter’s Statement and Police Involvement

The father stated that his daughter assured him no sexual assault took place. He mentioned that the police had registered a case and made an arrest, but his daughter claimed she was instructed by the police to make certain statements during her medical examination, which she did not fully understand. He emphasized that his daughter had no connection with the arrested individual and was not subjected to any mistreatment.

Incident Details and Legal Proceedings

The father explained that his daughter was asked to write a statement at the police station as part of the complaint process. He reiterated her well-being, stating she was not in trauma and was completely fit. Meanwhile, a report from news agency PTI suggested that the woman alleged rape inside a boys’ hostel at IIM-C by a fellow student. The FIR indicated she was called for a counseling session, after which she consumed a drug-laced drink and lost consciousness. Upon regaining consciousness, she realized she had been assaulted.

Legal Defense and Current Status

The accused has been remanded to police custody until July 19. His lawyer argues that he is being wrongfully accused. The case continues to unfold as investigations proceed, with both sides presenting conflicting narratives about the events.
