Arrest of Fifth Suspect in Cincinnati Assault

A fifth individual has been apprehended in connection with the violent assault that occurred in Cincinnati on July 26. Patrick Rosemond, 38, was arrested in Fulton County, Georgia, and faces charges of two counts of felonious assault and aggravated riot. The arrest was carried out by the FBI and the Atlanta Metropolitan Major Offender’s Task Force. Rosemond is currently undergoing the extradition process to be returned to Cincinnati, as confirmed by the Cincinnati Police Department.

Details of the Incident and Other Arrests

The incident took place between Elm and Fourth Streets and was captured on video, which quickly went viral on social media platforms. The footage shows two individuals being attacked, including a woman who was rendered unconscious after being repeatedly punched and kicked. In addition to Rosemond, four other suspects have been arrested: Dominique Kittle, Jermaine Matthews, Montianez Merriweather, and Dekyra Vernon. Notably, Matthews was released on bond last week.

Victim’s Ongoing Recovery Journey

One of the victims, identified as Holly, has shared updates on her recovery through a video posted online. Holly described her condition as an “ongoing battle,” citing severe brain trauma as a result of the assault. She expressed gratitude for the medical support she has received and thanked those who contributed to a fundraiser aiding her recovery. Holly mentioned that while her external injuries are healing, she continues to face significant internal damage, requiring frequent hospital visits and specialist consultations.

Community Reaction and Police Response

The viral nature of the assault has heightened crime concerns among Cincinnati residents. Police Chief Teresa Theetge emphasized that only one person out of approximately 100 witnesses called 911 during the incident. She assured the public that had the police been alerted promptly, they would have responded swiftly to protect those involved.
