Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly has voiced his support for Bengal pacer Mukesh Kumar’s return to the national team for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025. Ganguly, speaking to India Today, emphasized Mukesh’s capability as an “all-format” player, highlighting his consistent performance in domestic cricket. Despite not being part of the recent Test series against England, Mukesh remains a strong contender for future selections.
Mukesh Kumar, who last represented India in a T20I against Zimbabwe, has played three Tests, six ODIs, and 17 T20Is, amassing a total of 32 wickets. His recent exclusion from the Test series against England did not deter him from making headlines. Before the series, he participated in an unofficial Test against England Lions, taking three wickets in Canterbury. However, he was not included in subsequent matches.
On social media, Mukesh shared a cryptic message hinting at his determination and resilience: “Karma bides its time. You will always have to watch out. Karma is unforgiving and always gets payback.” This post reflects his readiness to seize future opportunities.
Mukesh has been named in the East Zone squad for the 2025-26 Duleep Trophy, alongside notable players like Ishan Kishan and Mohammed Shami. The tournament will commence with East Zone facing North Zone on August 28 in Bengaluru. As Ganguly suggests, Mukesh’s versatility across formats makes him a valuable asset for India’s cricketing future.
