Google Enhances Veo 3 with Image-to-Video Generation via Gemini

Google Introduces Image-to-Video Feature in Veo 3

Google has unveiled a new feature for its Veo 3 video generation model, allowing users to transform images into videos. Announced on Thursday, this enhancement is accessible through the Gemini web interface, though it remains unavailable on mobile apps. The feature is being rolled out in select countries, but Google has not disclosed which ones. This development marks a significant step in AI-driven video creation, offering users the ability to animate images with ease.

How to Use the New Feature

Eligible users can access this feature by visiting the Gemini website. Once there, they should select the “Video” chip located beneath the text box. This will reveal an option to add photos. Users can then upload a reference image and provide a prompt detailing their desired animation. The Veo 3 model will handle the rest, generating a video based on the input image and instructions.

Demonstration of Veo 3’s Capabilities

Google has shared a demonstration video showcasing the potential of Veo 3’s image-to-video generation. In this demo, an image of a cardboard box was used to create various videos, including a hamster cooking inside the box, a man jumping into it, and a lift emerging from it. This highlights the model’s ability to produce complex and creative animations from simple images.

Watermarking for Authenticity and Security

To ensure authenticity and prevent misuse, all videos generated using Gemini will feature visible watermarks indicating they are AI-generated. Additionally, an invisible watermark is embedded using Google’s SynthID technology, which cannot be removed or altered. This invisible watermark can only be detected by specialized software designed for this purpose.

Availability and Subscription Details

Veo 3 is currently available in 154 countries and territories worldwide. Access to the video generation model requires either a Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra subscription. The Ultra subscription, priced at $200 per month, is exclusively available in the United States.
