In a shocking incident in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, two people lost their lives and at least two others sustained injuries when a speeding SUV, driven by the son of a local policeman, collided with pedestrians. The driver, identified as 20-year-old Harshraj Singh Gohil, was reportedly racing with a friend on a busy street in the Kaliyabeed area. The incident occurred around 4 pm and was captured on CCTV, showing the white Creta SUV hitting pedestrians before crashing into a scooter.
Harshraj Singh Gohil, son of Assistant Sub Inspector Aniruddha Singh Vajubha Gohil, was driving at an alarming speed of 120 to 150 kilometers per hour. The high-speed race with his friend, who was driving a red Brezza car, resulted in Harshraj losing control of his vehicle. The SUV first struck two pedestrians and then collided with a two-wheeler. The impact was so severe that the scooter’s tires burst immediately, injuring its riders.
The pedestrians who tragically died on the spot were identified as 30-year-old Bhargav Bhatt and 65-year-old Champaben Vachani. Bhargav Bhatt, who had been married just last year, was reportedly on his way to work at Madhu Silica company when the accident occurred. The injured individuals were quickly transported to Sir T Hospital for medical attention.
Following the incident, Harshraj was taken into custody. His father, upon arriving at the scene, reprimanded him before handing him over to the Nilambag police station. Although Harshraj has been interrogated by the police, an official arrest had not been made at the time of reporting. Sources indicate that an arrest might occur later today.
This tragic event has raised concerns about road safety and reckless driving among young drivers in Gujarat. The community is mourning the loss of lives and urging for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations to prevent such incidents in the future.
