New Hooters Restaurant Opens in Florida’s The Villages, Attracting Seniors

The iconic restaurant chain Hooters has opened a new location in The Villages, Florida, a well-known retirement community situated approximately 45 miles northwest of Orlando. This marks the first new opening since Hooters of America filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier this year, aiming to facilitate a founder-led buyout and restructuring of the brand. The opening day saw enthusiastic residents lining up early to experience the restaurant’s offerings.

Neil Kiefer, CEO of Hooters Inc., which originated the Hooters concept in Clearwater, Florida, in 1983, expressed excitement about the new venture. He noted that the residents had requested a Hooters in their community and emphasized the company’s commitment to providing great food in a lively atmosphere. Kiefer also mentioned plans to revitalize the brand by returning to its original vision after corporate changes had led to inconsistencies across locations.

The new restaurant’s launch comes after more than 30 Hooters locations across the United States closed abruptly in June. This opening could signal a new chapter for the chain, often referred to as a “breastaurant.” Kiefer highlighted the intention to change Hooters’ culture by aligning more closely with its founding principles, including revisiting uniform standards that had become more revealing over time.

Local residents Alex and Tember Fowler attended the grand opening and shared their positive experience on social media. They praised the quality of food and service, noting that staff were attentive and efficient. Despite a minor complaint about being charged for flavored tea refills, they expressed satisfaction with their visit.

The buyer group involved in Hooters’ restructuring now controls over 30% of domestic locations, including some of the highest-volume restaurants. Once court approval is obtained, they plan to operate around 130 restaurants nationwide. Another location is set to open in Wesley Chapel, Florida, later this year.
