Two Men Create Human Bridge to Rescue 35 Children in Punjab Flood

Flooding Crisis in Malleyan Village

In Punjab’s Moga district, heavy rainfall led to severe flooding, causing a road to cave in and leaving 35 children stranded. The children, who had been sent home from school due to the weather, found themselves unable to cross the flooded fields. The situation became critical when an announcement from the local Gurudwara informed residents of the road collapse.

Heroic Rescue by Local Residents

Amidst the chaos, two local men, Sukhbinder Singh and Gagandeep Singh, emerged as heroes. They quickly devised a plan to form a human bridge, allowing the children and at least 10 other individuals to cross safely. This innovative approach, often referred to as ‘jugaad’, showcased their quick thinking and bravery. A video captured the scene, showing waist-deep water and a gap of at least five feet between the road’s broken ends.

Community Recognition and Concerns

The village panchayat of Malleyan has honored Sukhbinder and Gagandeep for their courageous act. Ingres Singh, a panchayat member, highlighted that Gagandeep had initially gone to pick up his nephew when he joined forces with Sukhbinder. Despite their efforts, there is growing frustration within the community over the lack of response from local authorities. Neither the Ludhiana district administration nor the Rasulpur Gram Panchayat has taken steps to repair the crucial road connecting Malleyan and Rasulpur villages.

Appeal for Government Action

Residents are urging immediate action from the state government and Ludhiana administration to address the infrastructure issue. The damaged road is vital for daily commutes and school access, making its repair a priority for the safety and convenience of villagers.
