Imam-ul-Haq Joins Yorkshire, Replaces Ruturaj Gaikwad

Imam-ul-Haq Strengthens Yorkshire’s Lineup

Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq has signed with Yorkshire as an overseas player for the remainder of the English domestic season. The 28-year-old cricketer, known for his impressive record of three Test centuries and nine ODI centuries, is set to make an immediate impact. Imam will participate in Yorkshire’s upcoming County Championship match against Surrey at Scarborough. His arrival comes as a replacement for Indian batter Ruturaj Gaikwad, who had to withdraw due to personal reasons.

Familiarity with English Conditions

Imam is no stranger to playing in England, having previously represented Somerset in 2022. His experience in English conditions is expected to be a significant asset for Yorkshire. Earlier this year, Imam played a crucial role in helping Pakistan Television secure the President’s Cup, Pakistan’s premier domestic tournament. Yorkshire hopes that his current form and experience will enhance their performance in both red-ball and 50-over formats through the end of the season.

Yorkshire’s Enthusiasm for Imam’s Arrival

Gavin Hamilton, Yorkshire’s general manager of cricket, expressed enthusiasm about Imam joining the team. “We’re delighted that Imam has joined us and that he will be available immediately,” Hamilton stated. Despite the disappointment of Gaikwad’s withdrawal, Hamilton emphasized that Imam brings exceptional international quality to the squad. His familiarity with domestic cricket in England is expected to benefit Yorkshire during a crucial series of matches.

Derbyshire Secures Caleb Jewell for 2026

In other news, Derbyshire has confirmed that Australian batter Caleb Jewell will return to the club in 2026 after signing a new contract. Jewell has been a standout performer in Division Two this season, amassing 821 runs at an average of 54.73, including a career-best score of 232 against Kent. Mickey Arthur, Derbyshire’s head of cricket, praised Jewell’s adaptability and determination, qualities that have made him an invaluable asset to the team. Jewell expressed his satisfaction with the new deal and his time at Derbyshire so far. “I’ve loved my time with Derbyshire so far, and I’m really happy to have signed for next season already,” he said. Jewell looks forward to contributing to a strong 50-over competition and helping Derbyshire remain competitive in their pursuit of promotion.
