India has strongly condemned recent comments made by Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir, who reportedly issued a nuclear threat during a gathering in Tampa, Florida. The Indian Foreign Ministry expressed regret over such remarks being made from the soil of a friendly third country, emphasizing that nuclear sabre-rattling is a common tactic employed by Pakistan. The Ministry highlighted the international community’s concerns about the integrity of Pakistan’s nuclear command and control, given the military’s connections with terrorist groups.
Reaffirming its position against “nuclear blackmail,” New Delhi assured that it would continue to take all necessary measures to safeguard national security. Sources within the Indian government criticized Munir’s comments as indicative of Pakistan being an “irresponsible” state with nuclear capabilities. They noted a pattern of behavior where the Pakistani military reveals its true intentions when supported by the United States.
The remarks by Field Marshal Munir have raised alarms about the potential risk of nuclear weapons falling into the hands of non-state actors in Pakistan. Indian officials pointed out that these statements reflect the lack of democratic governance in Pakistan, where the military holds significant control.
According to reports, Munir threatened to retaliate with nuclear force if Pakistan faced an existential threat from India. He also warned against India’s infrastructure projects on the Indus water channels, claiming they could lead to severe consequences for millions of people. Munir asserted that Pakistan has an ample supply of missiles and would not hesitate to use them if necessary.
