India’s defence sector has achieved a remarkable milestone, with production reaching an unprecedented Rs 1,50,590 crore in the fiscal year 2024-25. This marks an impressive 18% increase from the previous fiscal year, showcasing the sector’s robust growth trajectory. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted this achievement, emphasizing the collaborative efforts that have driven this success.
The defence production figures represent a substantial 90% increase since FY 2019-20, underscoring the rapid expansion and modernization of India’s defence capabilities. This growth is attributed to strategic initiatives and partnerships across various sectors involved in defence manufacturing.
Minister Singh credited the Department of Defence Production, Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs), public sector manufacturers, and private industry players for their concerted efforts in achieving this milestone. The synergy between these entities has been pivotal in enhancing production efficiency and capacity.
The surge in defence production not only strengthens India’s national security but also contributes significantly to the economy. Increased production capabilities ensure self-reliance in defence equipment, reducing dependency on imports and fostering indigenous innovation.
Looking ahead, the Indian government aims to sustain this growth momentum by further enhancing domestic manufacturing capabilities and exploring new markets for export. The focus remains on achieving technological advancements and fostering a competitive environment for defence production.
