The Indian cricket team is gearing up for the fourth Test against England at Manchester, with significant changes anticipated in the playing roster. The match, starting on Wednesday, will see the team making strategic adjustments due to injuries and performance considerations. Head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Shubman Gill face the challenge of replacing injured players while also considering tactical shifts to strengthen the squad.
Fast bowler Anshul Kamboj is expected to make his Test debut, stepping in for the injured Akash Deep. Meanwhile, Shardul Thakur is likely to fill the role of pace-bowling all-rounder, replacing Nitish Kumar Reddy, who has been ruled out of the series due to injury. These changes are largely necessitated by injuries, but there is also an unforced change on the horizon.
B Sai Sudharsan, who was dropped after a lackluster performance in the series opener at Leeds, might make a comeback to the playing XI. Despite being replaced by Karun Nair in subsequent matches, Sudharsan’s recent form and dedication during practice sessions have made his inclusion a strong possibility. His shadow practice over rain-soaked covers at Old Trafford has caught attention, indicating his readiness to seize any opportunity.
Karun Nair’s place in the team is under scrutiny due to inconsistent performances. Although he has not delivered significant scores in the series so far, team management remains hopeful about his potential. Captain Shubman Gill expressed confidence in Nair’s abilities during a pre-match press conference, emphasizing that sometimes players need just one breakthrough performance to regain form.
The final decision on Sudharsan’s inclusion could see him replacing either Karun Nair or another player like Washington Sundar. Given head coach Gautam Gambhir’s preference for all-rounders, Sudharsan might not be considered as a direct replacement for Nitish Reddy. India’s likely playing XI includes Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Karun Nair or Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill (captain), Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper), Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar or Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Anshul Kamboj.
