India suffered a surprising 22-run defeat against England in the third Test held at Lord’s, London. This loss allowed England to take a 2-1 lead in the ongoing five-match series. Chasing a target of 193, India faltered as they lost consecutive wickets, leaving Ravindra Jadeja to shoulder the responsibility. Despite efforts from Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, India was bowled out for 170 runs.
As the Indian team prepares for the crucial fourth Test, former Indian batter Dilip Vengsarkar has proposed significant changes to the squad. In an interview with Revsportz, Vengsarkar suggested dropping all-rounders Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar in favor of Arshdeep Singh and Kuldeep Yadav. He emphasized the necessity of having five specialized bowlers to secure a win in Test matches, stating that part-time bowlers are insufficient for such critical encounters.
Arshdeep Singh, a promising left-arm pacer, is yet to make his debut in Test cricket. Vengsarkar highlighted Arshdeep’s ability to swing the ball both in the air and off the pitch, which is particularly advantageous in English conditions. With Jasprit Bumrah potentially missing the fourth Test due to workload management, Arshdeep might receive his first Test cap.
Kuldeep Yadav has not yet been included in the Playing XI during this series. Although there were discussions about his inclusion in the second Test, Washington Sundar was chosen instead. Vengsarkar believes that Kuldeep’s inclusion could strengthen India’s bowling attack.
The fourth Test between India and England is scheduled to commence on July 23 in Manchester. With strategic changes on the horizon, India aims to level the series and regain momentum.
