The Haj Committee of India has announced a new, shorter pilgrimage package for 2026, offering a 20-day Haj experience. This initiative marks the first time such an option is available, aiming to accommodate pilgrims who may prefer a shorter duration for their spiritual journey. The introduction of this package reflects the committee’s commitment to providing flexible options for Indian pilgrims.
A total of 10,000 slots are available for this new 20-day package. If demand exceeds availability, a lottery system will be implemented to allocate these slots fairly. Interested applicants must submit their applications by July 31 to be considered for this opportunity. This deadline ensures that all interested parties have ample time to prepare and submit their documentation.
India’s overall quota for the Haj pilgrimage stands at 1,75,000 pilgrims. Of these, 1,25,000 pilgrims will travel through the Haj Committee of India (HCOI), while the remaining slots are allocated to private operators. This distribution allows for a balanced approach, catering to both public and private sector preferences.
Despite the shorter duration, the cost of the 20-day pilgrimage remains equivalent to that of the traditional 40-45 day journey. This pricing structure is due to pre-booked arrangements that ensure all logistical aspects are covered efficiently. The pilgrimage will commence from seven designated cities across India, providing convenient access points for participants.
The introduction of this shorter pilgrimage option is expected to attract a diverse group of pilgrims who may have previously been unable to commit to the longer duration. It also highlights the Haj Committee’s efforts to innovate and adapt to changing needs and preferences within the pilgrim community.
