The Indian Army has announced its decision to sponsor the education of Shvan Singh, a ten-year-old boy who demonstrated remarkable courage during Operation Sindoor. This operation involved intense military engagement in a Punjab village, where Shvan played a crucial role by providing meals and refreshments to soldiers amidst the conflict.
During the operation, which took place in Tara Wali village near the international border, Shvan supplied water, ice, tea, milk, and lassi to Indian soldiers engaged in a gunfight with the Pakistan Army. His actions were not only brave but also voluntary, as he took it upon himself to support the troops without any prompting.
In recognition of his bravery and selflessness, the Indian Army’s Golden Arrow Division has pledged to fully fund Shvan’s education. This commitment was made public during a ceremony at Ferozepur Cantonment, where Lt Gen Manoj Kumar Katiyar, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Command, honored Shvan for his contributions.
Shvan, hailing from Mamdot area in Ferozepur district, has expressed his desire to join the army when he grows up. His father proudly shared that Shvan independently decided to assist the soldiers, earning their admiration and respect.
Operation Sindoor was launched by the Indian armed forces on May 7 as a response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 that resulted in 26 casualties. The operation targeted nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, including significant strongholds of Jaish-e-Mohammad and Lashkar-e-Taiba. Following these strikes, Pakistan retaliated with an offensive against Indian military bases and border shelling over three days.
The story of Shvan Singh serves as an inspiring reminder of the quiet heroes across India who contribute significantly yet often go unnoticed. The Indian Army’s gesture underscores the importance of recognizing and supporting such individuals who embody courage and patriotism.
