Indian Railways to Expand ID Options for Tatkal Booking

Indian Railways is set to broaden the range of identification documents accepted for IRCTC account authentication, potentially including PAN Card, driving license, and voter ID through Digilocker. This initiative aims to enhance the convenience and efficiency of Tatkal ticket bookings, which accommodate approximately 220,000 passengers daily. The proposed changes are expected to be announced soon, following a strategic review meeting led by Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The current system primarily relies on Aadhaar for verification, but the inclusion of additional IDs is anticipated to streamline the process and reduce booking time. This move reflects Indian Railways’ commitment to improving passenger services and adapting to technological advancements. By integrating more digital ID options, the railway network seeks to provide a seamless experience for travelers, particularly during peak booking periods. The decision aligns with broader efforts to digitize services across India, promoting ease of access and reducing dependency on physical documentation. As the railway sector continues to evolve, these updates are part of ongoing reforms aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and customer satisfaction. The expansion of acceptable IDs is expected to facilitate smoother transactions and cater to a diverse passenger base, ultimately contributing to a more user-friendly booking system.
