A recent IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Varanasi experienced significant delays, leading to heightened tensions among passengers. The flight, originally scheduled to depart earlier, was delayed by over two hours due to a technical issue identified just before take-off. This delay resulted in chaotic scenes onboard as passengers expressed their frustration and anxiety.
A video capturing the incident has gone viral on social media, showing passengers questioning the cabin crew about the delay. In the footage, an air hostess is seen pleading with a passenger to remain seated, even folding her hands in a gesture of request. The video also captures passengers voicing concerns about safety, especially in light of a recent air travel tragedy in Ahmedabad that claimed 260 lives.
The delay was attributed to necessary technical checks on the aircraft. As ground teams worked to resolve the issue, other flights utilized the runway space, further postponing the IndiGo flight’s departure. Once cleared, the flight carrying 176 passengers finally took off at 9:53 pm and landed in Varanasi at 11:40 pm, missing its scheduled arrival time of 9:45 pm.
Throughout the ordeal, cabin crew members attempted to calm passengers by explaining the situation and requesting cooperation. The pilot, Captain Urvashi, addressed the passengers directly, assuring them that all systems had been thoroughly checked and that safety was the top priority. Her assurances were met with mixed reactions from passengers, some of whom chanted “Har Har Mahadev” in response.
The incident underscores growing concerns about air travel safety amid rising ticket prices post-Covid. Passengers are increasingly anxious about potential risks during flights, demanding transparency and prompt communication from airlines during delays or technical issues.
