Govt. High School in Dongargaon, located in the Burhanpur district of Madhya Pradesh, has introduced a groundbreaking ‘U-shape’ seating arrangement. This innovative setup draws inspiration from a Malayalam film and aims to eliminate the traditional concept of ‘backbenchers.’ The initiative, led by Principal Jagdish Patil, seeks to create a more inclusive and engaging learning environment for students.
The U-shape seating arrangement positions students face-to-face with the teacher, fostering open dialogue and encouraging active participation. This setup not only enhances communication between students and teachers but also promotes inclusivity by ensuring that every student is equally engaged in classroom activities. The new seating plan has been particularly successful in Class 10, where students have shown increased enthusiasm and participation.
By eliminating the hierarchical structure of traditional classroom seating, the U-shape arrangement empowers students to take on leadership roles within the classroom. This approach encourages students to express their ideas confidently and collaborate effectively with their peers. The success of this initiative in Class 10 has led to a growing demand for its implementation in other classes, with Class 9 students already requesting the same arrangement.
The positive impact of the U-shape seating arrangement has caught the attention of other schools in the district. Educators are keen to adopt similar strategies to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes. This innovative approach serves as a model for educational institutions seeking to create more dynamic and inclusive learning environments.
