Martha Nolan-O’Slatarra, a renowned Irish swimwear designer, was found dead aboard a yacht in Montauk, New York. Her untimely demise comes just months after finalizing a divorce and resolving a legal dispute related to her business dealings. The 33-year-old designer had recently ended her marriage with Sam Ryan, as confirmed by documents from the New York County Supreme Court. The couple’s separation was finalized on April 8, 2025, with all legal formalities completed.
Nolan-O’Slatarra was discovered lifeless on the yacht named Ripple in the early hours of Tuesday. Despite immediate CPR efforts by bystanders, she was pronounced dead at the scene. The yacht’s owner, reportedly in his 60s, was found alone with her when authorities arrived. Witnesses at the Montauk Yacht Club described chaotic scenes as the owner sought help from nearby boats.
The designer had faced legal challenges in recent years. A 2022 lawsuit accused her of misappropriating funds and inventory from Out East Accessories Inc., but the case was settled confidentially. Despite these issues, Nolan-O’Slatarra’s swimwear brand, East X East, was gaining traction in New York’s competitive market.
The Montauk community is shaken by this incident, adding to a series of recent tragedies in the area. While an initial autopsy showed no signs of violence, authorities are awaiting toxicology results to determine the cause of death. The Suffolk County Police Department continues its investigation.
Nolan-O’Slatarra’s family in Ireland is devastated by her sudden death. Her mother expressed shock and disbelief, recounting their last conversation before Martha planned to return home. The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust is assisting in bringing her remains back to Ireland.
