A powerful explosion struck the Jaffar Express passenger train in Pakistan’s Sindh province, causing several coaches to derail and leaving four people injured. The incident occurred near Sultan Kot, an area that has witnessed repeated militant activity over the years.
According to reports, the blast was caused by a remote-controlled improvised explosive device (IED) planted along the railway track. The explosion hit the Jaffar Express as it passed through Sultan Kot, causing multiple coaches to come off the rails. Emergency teams rushed to the scene to assist passengers and transport the injured to nearby medical facilities.
The Balochistan Republican Guards (BRG), a militant organization active in parts of Pakistan, claimed responsibility for the attack. In a statement, the group alleged that Pakistani army personnel were traveling on board the train at the time of the explosion. Authorities have not confirmed this claim but have launched an investigation into the incident and its perpetrators.
Sultan Kot and surrounding regions have long been considered sensitive areas due to recurring attacks on transport and infrastructure. Over the years, several incidents involving explosives have targeted railway lines and trains passing through this corridor, disrupting travel and raising security concerns for both civilian and military transport routes.
Rescue operations were quickly initiated following the derailment, with local authorities coordinating efforts to clear debris and restore rail traffic. Security forces cordoned off the area while bomb disposal units examined remnants of the device used in the attack. Officials are working to determine how militants managed to plant and detonate an explosive along a busy rail line despite ongoing security patrols.
The explosion temporarily halted train services on this route as engineers assessed damage to tracks and carriages. Railway officials emphasized that safety inspections would continue before resuming full operations. Passengers traveling through Sindh and Balochistan were advised to expect delays while repairs were underway.
The attack on the Jaffar Express underscores persistent security challenges facing Pakistan’s transportation network, particularly in regions affected by insurgent activity. While authorities continue efforts to strengthen surveillance and protect critical infrastructure, incidents like this highlight ongoing risks for travelers and workers across remote areas of the country.
