Joe Root Surpasses Ponting in Test Runs, Breaks Siraj’s Smart Band

Joe Root’s Historic Achievement in Test Cricket

England’s Joe Root achieved a significant milestone on Day 3 of the 4th Test against India, becoming the second highest run-scorer in Test cricket history. Root’s remarkable innings of 150 runs in England’s first innings allowed him to surpass cricket legends Rahul Dravid, Jacques Kallis, and Ricky Ponting. This feat elevated him from fifth to second place on the all-time run-scorers list, solidifying his status as one of the game’s greats. Additionally, Root’s century marked his 38th in Test cricket, placing him alongside Kumar Sangakkara. Only Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis, and Sachin Tendulkar have more centuries in the format.

The Unintended Incident with Mohammed Siraj

During his impressive innings, Root inadvertently caused a minor incident involving Indian bowler Mohammed Siraj. After missing a flick shot during the 52nd over, Root accidentally struck Siraj’s Whoop Band with his bat while attempting a quick single. The smart wearable device, which monitors health metrics, was knocked off Siraj’s wrist as he appealed for an LBW decision.

Jonathan Trott Praises Root’s Consistency

Former England batter Jonathan Trott commended Root for his consistent performance and adaptability. Trott noted that Root has refined his technique over time, balancing aggression with stability. While initially experimenting with aggressive shots under the “Bazball” approach, Root has since adopted a more measured style that suits his strengths. Trott emphasized that Root’s ability to focus and play long innings makes him a formidable opponent, as demonstrated by his latest achievement against India.

Root’s Continued Mastery of His Craft

Root’s recent performance underscores his ongoing mastery of the game. His ability to adapt and excel under varying conditions highlights his dedication to refining his skills. As he continues to climb the ranks of cricket’s elite run-scorers, Root remains a pivotal figure in England’s cricketing success.
