Credence Clearwater Revival’s John Fogerty has expressed admiration for Bruce Springsteen’s fearless stance against President Donald Trump. In a recent Rolling Stone interview, Fogerty praised Springsteen for his unwavering commitment to his values and his willingness to speak out. “I’m really proud of Bruce for just sticking up for his values and not being afraid to voice them,” said Fogerty, known for hits like “Down on the Corner.”
Bruce Springsteen, a long-time critic of President Trump, has consistently used his platform to voice his concerns. During his latest world tour, the “Born To Run” singer included a segment in his performances where he urged audiences to recognize the president as a threat to democracy. At a Manchester show in May, Springsteen declared, “In my home, the America I love… is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent and treasonous administration.” He called on those who believe in democracy to stand up against authoritarianism.
President Trump responded to Springsteen’s remarks through a post on Truth Social, labeling the musician as “highly overrated” and criticizing his political views. Trump dismissed Springsteen as “a pushy, obnoxious JERK” who supported Joe Biden. This exchange highlights the ongoing political tensions between artists and political figures.
In his interview, Fogerty compared Trump’s reaction to that of President Richard Nixon, suggesting that Nixon would have avoided giving publicity to critics. Fogerty noted that acknowledging critics only amplifies their message. The White House has not commented on this matter.
