John Kerry Acknowledges Trump’s Correct Stance on Border Security

In a recent interview on BBC’s “Reflections” podcast, John Kerry, former climate envoy under President Biden and Secretary of State under President Obama, acknowledged that President Donald Trump was correct regarding the importance of border security. Kerry emphasized the necessity of a protected border for defining a nation, stating, “Without a border protected, you don’t have a nation.” He expressed his belief that President Biden should have more frequently communicated his commitment to enforcing immigration laws. Kerry’s comments came during a discussion with BBC correspondent James Naughtie, who suggested that Trump might use Kerry’s remarks to validate his own stance on immigration. Kerry agreed, noting that everyone should have recognized the significance of border security and worked collectively towards it. He also mentioned that he had advised Biden on the Democratic Party’s shortcomings concerning immigration policy, criticizing the party for allowing the border to remain under siege. The conversation also touched on internal Democratic Party dynamics, with Naughtie questioning whether it would have been beneficial for Biden to announce earlier that he would not seek re-election. Kerry refrained from speculating but praised Biden as a friend and an effective president who deserved more recognition for his achievements. The issue of immigration has been a central theme in Trump’s political agenda, particularly during his second term, which focused on reducing illegal immigration through mass deportations. Recent data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection highlighted a decrease in border apprehensions, with 5,414 apprehensions recorded between June 1 and June 22, marking the lowest numbers ever recorded. This contrasts sharply with figures from May of the previous year under the Biden administration, which saw nearly 118,000 apprehensions.
