Kapil Sharma’s restaurant, Kap’s Cafe, located in Surrey, British Columbia, was the target of a shooting incident earlier this week. The attack was claimed by Harjit Singh Laddi, associated with the banned terrorist organization Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). Laddi stated that the attack was in response to remarks made on Sharma’s show that allegedly mocked the Nihang Sikh community.
The controversy began when a participant on Kapil Sharma’s show made humorous remarks about the traditional dress and conduct of Nihang Sikhs. These comments were perceived as offensive by some members of the community, leading to demands for a public apology from Sharma. Laddi claimed that multiple attempts to contact Sharma’s management went unanswered.
The shooting occurred on Wednesday night at Kap’s Cafe, which had opened on July 4. According to the Surrey Police Service, shots were fired at the business located in the 8400 block of 120 Street. Although no injuries were reported, the property sustained damage while staff members were present inside.
In response to the incident, Kap’s Cafe released a statement on Instagram expressing their shock and determination to stand against violence. The cafe emphasized its mission to foster community and joy through its offerings and thanked supporters for their kind words and prayers during this challenging time.
Nihang Sikhs are known for their distinctive blue attire and traditional martial practices within Sikhism. They hold a significant place in Sikh history and culture, adhering to age-old martial traditions.
As of now, comedian Kapil Sharma has not publicly addressed the incident. The situation remains under investigation by local authorities as they work to ensure safety and security in the area.
