In a shocking incident in Karnataka’s Davanagere district, a domestic dispute over loan repayment escalated into violence when a man bit off his wife’s nose. The altercation occurred between Vidya and her husband Vijay, who had provided surety for a loan Vidya had taken. As she failed to meet the repayment schedule, both faced harassment from lenders, leading to a heated argument.
The confrontation took place on Tuesday, with tensions rising as the couple argued about the financial pressure they were under. During the dispute, Vijay physically assaulted Vidya and severed the tip of her nose with his teeth. Alarmed by her cries for help, witnesses quickly intervened and transported Vidya to the Channagiri government hospital. Despite the severity of her injuries, medical professionals have confirmed that her condition is now stable.
Following the incident, Vidya lodged a formal complaint against Vijay. The police promptly registered a First Information Report (FIR) and initiated an investigation into the matter. Initially filed at the Jayanagar Police Station in Shivamogga, jurisdictional protocols necessitated transferring the case to the Channagiri Police Station in Davanagere district.
The violent nature of this domestic dispute has sparked concern within the local community about the pressures of financial obligations and their potential to incite violence. Authorities are urging individuals facing similar financial stress to seek mediation or counseling services to prevent such incidents.
