The State Investigation Agency (SIA) has intensified its efforts to solve the decades-old murder case of a Kashmiri Pandit woman, Sarla Bhat, by conducting raids across central Kashmir. On Tuesday, officials reported that the agency targeted several locations as part of their ongoing investigation. These raids are a significant step in revisiting the case that has remained unresolved for 35 years.
The investigation has particularly focused on individuals previously associated with the banned Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF). The SIA conducted searches at the residences of several former JKLF members, including Peer Noorul Haq Shah, also known as Air Marshal. This renewed scrutiny aims to uncover new evidence or leads that could shed light on Bhat’s tragic death.
Sarla Bhat disappeared from her hostel at the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences in Soura in April 1990. Her body was later discovered in downtown Srinagar, marking a grim chapter in the region’s history. The case had remained dormant for years until recent developments prompted authorities to reopen it.
As the investigation progresses, further details about the raids and any potential findings are eagerly awaited. The reopening of this case underscores the commitment to seeking justice for victims and their families, even after many years have passed.
