Kohli’s Praise for Gill Sparks Reaction from Former England Star

Virat Kohli, the renowned Indian cricketer, recently took to social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to commend Shubman Gill for his exceptional leadership in India’s historic Test victory at Edgbaston, Birmingham. Under Gill’s captaincy, the Indian cricket team achieved a significant milestone by securing their first-ever Test win at this venue, breaking a 58-year-long drought. The team delivered a commanding performance, defeating England by a substantial margin of 336 runs in the second Test, thereby leveling the five-match series at 1-1. Kohli’s tweet highlighted the fearless approach of the Indian team and praised Gill for his outstanding performance both with the bat and in the field. He also acknowledged the remarkable bowling efforts of Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep, who played pivotal roles in India’s triumph. Kohli’s words of appreciation did not go unnoticed, as former England cricketer Jonathan Trott remarked on Kohli’s apparent longing for the camaraderie of the dressing room. Trott speculated on Kohli’s potential return to cricket, suggesting that he might be tempted to play again given his proximity to cricketing venues. Kohli retired from Test cricket in May 2025 after an illustrious career spanning 123 matches and amassing 9,230 runs. He also stepped down from T20 Internationals following India’s victory in the T20 World Cup 2024 but remains active in One Day Internationals (ODIs). In the match against England, Akash Deep emerged as a standout performer by taking ten wickets across both innings. His impressive figures of 10-147 were instrumental in India’s victory. Deep’s performance was especially noteworthy as he filled in for the rested Jasprit Bumrah, showcasing his potential as a formidable pacer on the international stage.
