Kameron Westcott, known from “Real Housewives of Dallas,” has publicly addressed the ongoing legal battle involving her family and pop star Katy Perry. The dispute centers around a $15 million Montecito mansion, originally sold by Kameron’s father-in-law, Carl Westcott, to Perry in 2020. Carl, a U.S. Army veteran and founder of 1-800-Flowers, sought to rescind the sale, citing his lack of capacity due to a recent surgery and brain disorder. This legal feud has persisted for five years, with Perry expected to testify about her claimed losses in rental income due to the litigation.
The legal proceedings have taken a toll on the Westcott family. Kameron expressed her dismay over the situation, emphasizing that they never intended to go to court. She highlighted the challenges faced by her husband, Court Westcott, who now manages family affairs alongside his brother due to Carl’s deteriorating health from Huntington’s disease and dementia. Kameron described the lawsuit as a heartbreaking burden during an already difficult time for their family.
In November 2023, Judge Joseph Lipner ruled in favor of Perry’s business manager, Bernie Gudvi, affirming the sale of the mansion. The judge found Carl Westcott’s expert testimony on his lack of capacity unconvincing. The trial is divided into two phases, with the penalty phase scheduled soon. While Perry is set to testify, the Westcotts are also seeking testimony from Orlando Bloom, who was involved in property management discussions.
Kameron criticized Perry and Bloom for their perceived lack of empathy throughout this ordeal. She expressed hope that they would recognize the importance of empathy and consider settling the matter amicably. Despite the challenges, Kameron remains focused on finding peace for her father-in-law and moving past this legal struggle.
