Lufthansa CEO’s Wife Involved in Fatal Accident in Italy

Tragic Incident in Sardinia

Vivian Alexandra Spohr, the wife of Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr, was involved in a tragic accident while on vacation in Porto Cervo, Sardinia. The incident occurred when Ms. Spohr’s SUV struck 24-year-old Gaia Costa, a local babysitter, as she was crossing a pedestrian walkway. Witnesses reported that Ms. Costa attempted to alert the driver before being hit. Despite efforts by emergency personnel to revive her, Ms. Costa succumbed to severe head injuries at the scene.

Investigation and Legal Proceedings

Italian authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, focusing on potential charges of involuntary manslaughter, also known as vehicular homicide. Ms. Spohr was immediately tested for drugs and alcohol, with results showing no presence of either substance. Investigators are examining phone records and CCTV footage to determine if driver distraction played a role in the accident. Any evidence of negligence beyond substance use could influence the legal outcome significantly.

Response from Ms. Spohr and Legal Representation

Following the accident, Ms. Spohr returned to Berlin but remains cooperative with Italian judicial authorities. Her lawyer, Angelo Merlini, conveyed her profound regret and sorrow over the incident. The Spohr family has extended their heartfelt condolences to Ms. Costa’s family during this difficult time.

Community Mourning and Tributes

The death of Gaia Costa has deeply affected the Porto Cervo community. Known for her dedication to local social and cultural activities, she was remembered fondly by Mayor Gianni Addis as a “hard-working and cheerful” individual who cherished regional traditions. Her loss is felt profoundly by those who knew her and appreciated her contributions to the community.
