Former Indian cricket star Madan Lal has called on Virat Kohli to reconsider his retirement from Test cricket following India’s narrow defeat to England in the third Test at Lord’s. India was in a strong position to secure a 2-1 lead in the five-match series but ultimately fell short. Kohli had announced his retirement from Test cricket just before the series began, a decision that Madan Lal believes should be reversed. He emphasized that there is no harm in returning to the sport and urged Kohli to share his vast experience and passion with the younger players.
Madan Lal highlighted Kohli’s unmatched passion for Indian cricket and expressed his desire for the former captain to return to the Test format. He suggested that Kohli could still play for another one to two years, providing valuable mentorship to emerging talents. According to Lal, Kohli’s return would not only benefit the team but also inspire young cricketers by passing on his knowledge and experience.
In addition to Kohli’s potential comeback, former England captain Michael Vaughan commented on Shubman Gill’s performance during the Lord’s Test. Despite Gill’s impressive form earlier in the series, where he scored a century at Headingley and a double ton in Birmingham, he struggled at Lord’s, managing only 16 and 6 runs. Vaughan noted that Gill appeared less technically sound and calm during his innings, although he praised India’s overall fighting spirit.
Despite the loss at Lord’s, India showcased resilience, particularly through all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and the tail-enders who put up a commendable fight. Vaughan acknowledged England’s strong performance when the game intensified on the third evening but also recognized India’s determination throughout the match.
