Major Collision on Mumbai-Pune Expressway Involving 20 Vehicles

A significant traffic accident occurred on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway near Khopoli in Raigad district, involving approximately 20 vehicles. The incident unfolded when a container truck reportedly experienced brake failure while descending a slope, leading to a catastrophic pile-up.
The accident took place on the Mumbai-bound lane, within the jurisdiction of the Khopoli police station. The affected area stretches from the new tunnel to the Food Mall hotel zone. The out-of-control truck collided with multiple vehicles, including luxury cars such as BMW and Mercedes, causing extensive damage.
Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported. However, 19 individuals sustained serious injuries and were promptly admitted to a private hospital in Navi Mumbai for treatment. The collision resulted in significant damage to several vehicles, both four-wheelers and heavy vehicles.
Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene to manage the situation and assist the injured. The driver of the container truck has been taken into custody. A medical examination confirmed that he was not under the influence of any substances at the time of the accident.
