In a startling incident in Maharashtra, a man named Sumit Sayani was arrested after threatening a shopkeeper with a knife over a lehenga dispute. The incident took place in Kalyan, approximately 57 km from Mumbai, and was captured on the store’s CCTV cameras.
The conflict began when Sayani’s fiancée purchased a lehenga for Rs 32,000 from a well-known garment store. Unsatisfied with the stitched piece, she returned to the shop to seek a refund. However, the shopkeeper refused to issue a refund and instead suggested she select another item of equal value.
Frustrated by the refusal, Sayani reacted aggressively. He brandished a black knife, slashed the blue lehenga, and trampled on it in anger. His actions did not stop there; he proceeded to damage the accompanying blouse by cutting it with the knife. In a fit of rage, he threatened the shopkeeper, stating, “I will cut you up like this, too. Give me back the money.”
The entire episode was recorded on CCTV, providing clear evidence of Sayani’s actions. The footage showed the shopkeeper calmly picking up the torn lehenga while Sayani paced around the store in agitation. Following this incident, a complaint was filed with Kalyan’s Bazaarpeth Police, leading to Sayani’s arrest.
This incident highlights the potential legal consequences of resorting to violence and threats in commercial disputes. Sayani now faces legal action for his aggressive behavior and threats against the shopkeeper.
