In a significant security breach, authorities in Florida apprehended a man early Tuesday morning after discovering a loaded AR-15 rifle and several knives inside a rental vehicle parked in a restricted area at Palm Beach County Airport. The airport is known for its association with President Trump, although he was not present in Florida at the time of the incident. The arrest was made by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) following a report from airport operations staff about a suspicious individual near a dark-colored vehicle in a secure parking zone.
The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Michael Rodrigues, was found outside the vehicle reportedly getting dressed when deputies arrived at approximately 7:10 a.m. Upon investigation, deputies discovered that the vehicle was rented and proceeded to check the glove compartment for the rental agreement. This search led to the discovery of a fully loaded AR-15 magazine. A comprehensive search of the vehicle revealed a loaded AR-15 rifle and multiple knives concealed beneath a blanket on the seat.
Rodrigues was taken into custody without any resistance and is currently being interviewed by detectives. Although he has not yet been formally charged, the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are in the process of obtaining a search warrant to conduct a more thorough examination of the vehicle and gather any additional evidence that may be pertinent to the case.
Despite the alarming nature of the incident, law enforcement sources have confirmed that no threats were made, and Rodrigues’ motives remain unclear at this time. The situation underscores ongoing security challenges at locations frequented by high-profile individuals like President Trump.
As this is an evolving situation, further updates will be provided as more information becomes available. Authorities continue to investigate to ensure public safety and address any potential threats.
