Incident Overview

In a shocking incident in Delhi’s Vasant Vihar, a woman was shot by a man who was out on interim bail in a rape case she had filed against him last year. The attack occurred on Wednesday, and the woman, who works as a head manager at a salon, sustained a gunshot wound to her chest. She was immediately rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre by a PCR van and is currently reported to be in stable condition.

Details of the Attack

The police have identified the accused as Abuzair Safi, aged 30, who allegedly fired at the woman while accompanied by his accomplice, Aman Sukhla. The duo used a black motorcycle to carry out the attack. The police were alerted to the scene where they found an abandoned auto-rickshaw. The driver, Ranjeet Yadav, informed them that his female passenger had been shot and taken to the hospital.

Arrests and Charges

Following the incident, both Safi and Sukhla were apprehended on Thursday and Friday, respectively. A case has been registered at Vasant Vihar Police Station under Sections 109(1) (attempt to murder) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with provisions of the Arms Act. The arrests were facilitated by CCTV footage, technical surveillance, and social media tracking.

Motive Behind the Crime

During interrogation, it was revealed that Safi was enraged with the survivor for filing a criminal case against him. His repeated attempts to contact her were met with refusal, which further fueled his anger. This led to the premeditated attack on her.

Ongoing Investigation

The police are continuing their investigation to determine if more individuals were involved in the crime and to verify the backgrounds of those already arrested. The firearm allegedly used in the shooting has been seized from Safi’s possession.
