Search Intensifies for Army Veteran Suspected in Montana Bar Shooting

Manhunt for Army Veteran Following Bar Shooting

Authorities are intensifying their search for Michael Paul Brown, a 45-year-old Army veteran from Anaconda, Montana, suspected of fatally shooting four individuals at The Owl Bar on Friday morning. The Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Law Enforcement Center has identified Brown as the primary suspect and warned that he is considered armed and dangerous. The incident has prompted a significant law enforcement response, with efforts focused on locating Brown, who was last seen in the Stumptown area, west of Anaconda.

Discovery of Abandoned Vehicle

The search gained momentum after officials discovered a white Ford F-150 pickup truck, allegedly used by Brown to flee the scene. This vehicle was found abandoned, but there was no sign of Brown in or around it. The discovery has led authorities to concentrate their search efforts on the mountainous region near Stumptown Road. Despite the intensive search, Brown remains at large.

Public Safety Measures and Warnings

In response to the ongoing manhunt, local residents have been advised to stay indoors and remain vigilant. Authorities have emphasized the importance of not approaching Brown if spotted, urging the public to contact 911 immediately. A lockdown was temporarily imposed in the Stumptown Road area to facilitate the search but was lifted by Saturday.

Background and Criminal Investigation

Michael Paul Brown served as an armor crewman in the Army from January 2001 to May 2005 and later in the Montana National Guard until March 2009. His military background includes a deployment to Iraq from February 2004 to March 2005. The Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) continues to lead efforts in tracking down Brown while investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Ongoing Investigation and Community Impact

As authorities work tirelessly to apprehend Brown, they have yet to release the names of the victims pending family notifications. The community remains on edge as law enforcement officials continue their search operations by ground and air. The situation underscores the importance of community cooperation and vigilance during such critical times.
