A manhunt is currently underway in Hawaii following a shocking sulfuric acid attack that left a pedestrian critically injured. The incident occurred on Friday night in Honolulu’s bustling Chinatown area. According to the Honolulu Police Department (HPD), officers responded to an assault complaint shortly after 10 p.m. Witnesses reported that a 30-year-old man was crossing the street when an unidentified suspect approached him and threw an unknown liquid into his face.
The Honolulu Fire Department later confirmed that the liquid used in the attack was sulfuric acid, a highly corrosive chemical known for causing severe burns to skin, eyes, and internal tissues. Emergency responders quickly transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Due to the severity of his injuries, HPD detectives have been unable to interview him for further details.
The preliminary investigation suggests that the victim did not know his attacker. Detectives are actively canvassing the scene to recover any surveillance footage and locate additional witnesses. The case has been classified as a first-degree assault, a serious felony under Hawaii law. As of now, detectives have not determined a motive for the attack, and it remains unclear whether it qualifies as a hate crime.
The suspect is described as a 6-foot tall man last seen wearing a blue fitted shirt and a do-rag, with a camera around his neck and carrying a red bottle. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
