First Lady Melania Trump made a heartfelt visit to Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C., as part of her ongoing “Be Best” initiative. The visit, which took place on a Thursday afternoon ahead of Independence Day, was aimed at bringing joy and support to young patients battling serious health conditions such as cancer, kidney, and heart issues. Mrs. Trump engaged with the children in the garden room, where they participated in patriotic arts and crafts activities like rock painting.
Nicholas Clemens, the communications director at the Office of the First Lady, expressed the team’s gratitude for the opportunity to interact with these courageous children and their caregivers. He noted how the children were delighted to receive gifts from Mrs. Trump, including teddy bears, puzzles, books, and “Be Best” temporary tattoos. The event underscored Mrs. Trump’s commitment to advocating for the well-being of children through her “Be Best” campaign.
During her visit, Mrs. Trump also helped unveil a new hybrid Tea Rose named “Eternal Flame,” sourced from the White House gardens. This rose is known for its high centers, long stems, and strong floral fragrance, making it ideal for cutting gardens. Dale Haney, White House Grounds superintendent, accompanied Mrs. Trump and discussed the new rose bush with CNH President and CEO Michelle Riley-Brown and the children.
In addition to participating in arts and crafts, both inpatient and outpatient children joined Mrs. Trump in the Bunny Mellon Healing Garden to place rocks, pinwheels, and American flags among the plants and flowers. The garden is dedicated to the First Ladies of the United States and spans 7,200 square feet on a rooftop.
The day concluded with a touching moment when Mrs. Trump visited a three-month-old child in the heart and kidney unit who had undergone multiple surgeries since birth. She shared hugs with the child and his military family. Mrs. Trump also met with a teenage boy recently admitted to the unit and his family.
Mrs. Trump’s visit highlighted her ongoing dedication to supporting children’s health and well-being through personal engagement and meaningful initiatives.
