A woman named Shataria Banks was denied boarding by Spirit Airlines at Miami International Airport due to concerns related to a recent cosmetic procedure. The incident occurred on a Wednesday afternoon, and Banks documented her experience in a video at the Spirit Airlines desk. Despite having medical clearance from her doctor, she faced restrictions from the airline.
Banks, who traveled from Houston to Miami for the procedure, chose not to disclose specific details about it. She emphasized that she had obtained documentation from her doctor confirming her fitness to fly after several days of recovery. However, upon attempting to check in for her flight back, she was informed that she could not board.
Spirit Airlines issued a statement highlighting their commitment to passenger safety. They explained that their agents followed standard procedures by consulting with MedLink, a designated on-call medical professional service. Based on the information provided, MedLink advised that Banks was not fit to travel at that time. Consequently, Spirit Airlines issued a refund for her flight.
While Banks acknowledged the importance of safety protocols, she expressed frustration over the lack of clear guidelines. She urged airlines to establish better systems to prevent financial losses for passengers who are denied boarding under similar circumstances. Banks stated her reluctance to fly with Spirit Airlines again due to this experience.
