Declassified documents have revealed a perplexing incident involving a United States military aircraft. In January 2023, an F-16 Viper jet, engaged in training exercises near Gila Bend, Arizona, was struck by an unidentified flying object. The object collided with the aircraft’s canopy, initially spotted by an instructor pilot in the rear seat. Despite the collision, no damage was reported to the nearly $70 million jet, and officials ruled out a bird strike as the cause.
Authorities later identified the object as a drone, though its origin and operator remain unknown. This incident was one of four encounters with unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) reported shortly after, according to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) documents. James Fox, a director known for his work on UFO documentaries, expressed little surprise at the incident, citing previous reports of objects loitering off the East Coast without visible propulsion.
The Department of Defense reported 757 UAP incidents between May 2023 and June 2024. Of these, 708 occurred in the air, with only 49 cases resolved. Notably, 18 reports involved UAPs near nuclear sites and weapons facilities. Despite extensive investigations, none of these cases confirmed advanced foreign technologies or breakthrough aerospace capabilities.
Fox highlighted historical sightings dating back to the 1930s and 1940s involving mysterious glowing objects capable of outmaneuvering military planes. He suggested that either non-human intelligence has been observed since then or someone has successfully reverse-engineered such technology.
In response to increasing UAP reports, the Department of Defense established an Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force in 2020 to investigate potential threats to national security. Fox noted that updated radar technology might be contributing to the rise in sightings. Despite ongoing skepticism, government efforts toward transparency have included congressional hearings on UFOs.
