A Minnesota hiker, Grant Gardner, has been missing for over a week after vanishing in Wyoming’s Bighorn Mountains. His wife, Lauren Gardner, is striving to remain strong for their two children as search efforts continue. Grant last communicated with his wife on July 29, confirming he had reached the summit of the 13,000-foot Cloud Peak. Unfortunately, he has not been heard from since that message, as reported by the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office.
The search and rescue operation launched by the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office faces extreme and challenging conditions. The rugged terrain and unpredictable weather patterns, including winds and thunderstorms, have complicated the search efforts. The Sheriff’s Office has described the situation as rapidly evolving, with multiple agencies and aircraft involved in the search.
Grant Gardner is an experienced solo hiker with over a decade of hiking experience. His wife expressed shock at his disappearance, noting his detailed-oriented nature and familiarity with such adventures. Despite his skills, the late summit time of 7:00 p.m. on July 29 raised concerns due to the difficult navigation required after dark.
The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office has urged anyone who may have encountered Gardner to report any information to assist in the search. Meanwhile, Lauren Gardner remains hopeful for her husband’s safe return, emphasizing her need to stay strong for their children during this challenging time.
Search teams from various counties in Wyoming are actively participating in the operation. Helicopters from First Flight of Wyoming and the Wyoming Army National Guard are also aiding in the search. Authorities continue to monitor phone records and other leads to locate Gardner.
