In the small town of Anaconda, Montana, residents had long been wary of Michael Paul Brown, the man accused of a deadly shooting at the Owl Bar. Known for his unpredictable behavior, Brown was often described as a “loose cannon” by locals. Two anonymous residents shared with Fox News Digital that Brown’s erratic actions and fantastical stories were well-known in the community. Despite attempts by family and friends to get him mental health support, Brown reportedly refused assistance.
Brown, who grew up in Anaconda, served as an armor crewman in the Army and later in the National Guard. His niece, Clare Boyle, revealed that he suffered from PTSD and schizophrenia, conditions that worsened after his mother’s death in 2021. Boyle expressed frustration over the lack of mental health resources available to Brown, noting that he was denied assistance due to bureaucratic hurdles.
The tragic event has left the tight-knit community of 9,000 residents in shock. The victims, all locals, were identified as Daniel Edwin Baillie, Nancy Lauretta Kelley, David Allen Leach, and Tony Wayne Palm. The town remains on high alert as authorities continue their search for Brown, who is considered armed and dangerous.
Following the massacre, police discovered a white Ford F-150 linked to Brown but have yet to apprehend him. The vehicle contained survival gear and food supplies, indicating premeditation. The state attorney general has warned that Brown may return to Anaconda, heightening public safety concerns.
