Suspect’s Mugshot Released Following Montana Bar Shooting

Authorities have released the mugshot of Michael Paul Brown, the suspect in a tragic shooting at a rural Montana bar. The incident, which occurred at The Owl Bar in Anaconda on August 1, resulted in the deaths of four individuals. Brown, aged 45, is currently detained at the Butte-Silver Bow County Jail, located approximately 20 miles from the crime scene. The charges against him remain unspecified in jail records.

Victims of the Anaconda Shooting Identified

The victims of this devastating event have been identified as Daniel Edwin Baillie, 59; Nancy Lauretta Kelley, 64; David Allen Leach, 70; and Tony Wayne Palm, 70. Kelley was working as a bartender at the time, while the other three were patrons. All were residents of Anaconda, a small community with a population of around 9,000.

Manhunt Concludes with Arrest

Following a tense week-long manhunt that left Anaconda residents anxious about Brown’s potential return, a coordinated effort by local police, state authorities, and federal law enforcement led to his capture. Governor Greg Gianforte announced Brown’s arrest during a press conference at the Deer Lodge County Courthouse in Anaconda. He praised law enforcement for their swift action and commitment to apprehending the suspect.

Capture Details and Community Impact

Brown was apprehended near a barn on private property just over five miles from where the shooting took place. While his motive remains unclear, some residents have mentioned his mental health struggles. His niece, Clare Boyle, revealed that Brown suffered from PTSD and schizophrenia following his military service. She claimed that he was denied assistance from the VA after his grandmother’s death, which significantly impacted his mental health.
