Mumbai Man’s Murder Mirrors ‘Drishyam’ Plot, Wife Allegedly Involved

Body of Missing Man Discovered in Mumbai Home

The body of Vijay Chavan, a 40-year-old man, was discovered buried in his home in Mumbai’s Nalasopara, 15 days after he was reported missing. The investigation has revealed that his wife, Chaman, allegedly orchestrated the murder with her lover, Monu. Police sources indicate that the crime was premeditated, as Chaman had a pit dug in their house 12 days prior to the discovery and attempted to withdraw funds from Vijay’s bank account.

Family’s Search and Suspicion

Vijay’s brothers had been trying to contact him for two weeks without success. When they visited his home, Chaman claimed Vijay was away for work in Borivali, Kandivali, or Malad. On July 19, Chaman left the house with her seven-year-old son. CCTV footage captured her purchasing snacks from a local vendor. Concerned about Vijay’s absence, the family forcibly entered the house and noticed three newly replaced tiles on the floor.

Discovery of the Body

The family’s suspicions were aroused by the differently colored tiles. They alerted the police, who uncovered a black plastic bag buried beneath the floor containing a decomposed body. Investigations revealed that Chaman had arranged for a 3.5-foot-deep and 6-foot-long pit to be dug and later covered it with tiles at a cost of Rs 1,200.

Financial Motive Behind the Crime

Vijay, a home renovation contractor, had recently received Rs 6 lakh from an insurance policy and had plans to purchase a new house. He had transferred ownership of their current home to Chaman. Police discovered that Chaman accessed Vijay’s bank account using one-time passwords generated from his phone and withdrew money from various ATMs.

Affair and Murder Plot

The murder plot resembles the storyline of the Bollywood film ‘Drishyam’. Chaman allegedly conspired with Monu, her neighbor-turned-lover. Monu’s mother once caught him speaking with Chaman and confiscated his phone temporarily. A murder case has been filed against Chaman and Monu, who are currently missing.
