Legal Battle for Indian Cricketer Nitish Kumar Reddy Over Rs 5 Crore Dispute

Nitish Kumar Reddy Faces Legal Challenges Post-England Tour

Indian cricketer Nitish Kumar Reddy finds himself embroiled in a legal controversy following his return from England. The all-rounder, who was part of India’s squad for the five-match Test series against England, sustained a knee injury after the third Test, ruling him out of the remaining matches. Upon his return to India, Reddy’s former management agency, Square The One, filed a legal petition against him, demanding the payment of Rs 5 crore in dues. The agency claims that Reddy breached their management agreement by not settling his financial obligations.

Management Dispute and Legal Proceedings

Square The One Private Limited has taken legal action under Section 11(6) of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, accusing Reddy of non-payment and breach of contract. The Delhi High Court is expected to hear the case on Monday, July 28. According to sources from India Today, Reddy ended his four-year association with the agency during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia by opting for a new manager. This decision has led to accusations from Square The One that Reddy failed to clear his dues.

Background and Implications

The agency managed Reddy since 2021, facilitating numerous commercials and brand endorsements during their partnership. Despite most disputes of this nature being resolved privately, this case has escalated to court proceedings due to Reddy’s refusal to pay, claiming he independently secured his deals. This legal battle could have significant implications for Reddy’s career and reputation.

Impact on India’s Test Series Against England

Reddy’s injury was a setback for India, already trailing 1-2 in the series. His absence added to the team’s challenges as other players like Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep were also ruled out due to injuries. Anshul Kamboj was brought in as a replacement for Arshdeep Singh in the fourth Test in Manchester, while Sai Sudharshan replaced Karun Nair in the Playing XI.
