Student’s Critical Condition Following Self-Immolation

A female student from Fakir Mohan Autonomous College in Balasore, Odisha, is in critical condition at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhubaneswar after setting herself on fire. The incident occurred following alleged inaction on her complaint of sexual harassment against a professor. Her brother has expressed determination to seek justice, stating he “will go to any length” to ensure accountability.

Brother’s Determination for Justice

The student’s brother shared with NDTV that she had been actively seeking a statement from the college principal to support her complaint before involving the police. Despite her efforts, no action was taken against the accused professor, Samir Kumar Sahu, who heads the Bachelor of Education Department. The brother criticized the college authorities for their lack of response and vowed not to spare anyone involved in the negligence.

Odisha Chief Minister’s Response

A dedicated medical team is working on her treatment, with consultations from AIIMS Delhi specialists. The chief minister emphasized that the next 24 hours are crucial and promised potential transfer to a premier facility if required.
