Overcrowding Issues on Gwalior-Barauni Express: Passenger’s Seat Occupied

Passenger’s Frustration on Gwalior-Barauni Express

In a recent incident highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by Indian Railways, a passenger on the Gwalior-Barauni Express expressed his frustration on social media after discovering his reserved seat was occupied by another traveler. The issue was brought to light through a video shared by the passenger, showcasing the overcrowded conditions in the sleeper coach. Despite approaching the Train Ticket Examiner (TTE) for assistance, no action was taken to resolve the situation, leaving the passenger without his rightful seat.

Social Media as a Platform for Grievances

The passenger took to social media platform X to voice his concerns, tagging relevant authorities including the Ministry of Railways and Northern Railway. His post read, “My seat is occupied by another passenger. I requested the TTE, Sir, to get my seat vacated, but it still hasn’t been cleared.” The video accompanying the post depicted a chaotic scene within the sleeper coach, drawing attention to the broader issue of overcrowding and unauthorized occupancy in Indian trains.

RailwaySeva’s Response and Call for Action

In response to the post, RailwaySeva, the official customer service handle of Indian Railways, acknowledged the issue and requested the passenger’s PNR and mobile number via direct message to facilitate immediate action. They also advised passengers to raise concerns through official channels such as RailMadad or by dialing 139 for prompt resolution.

Recurring Challenges in Indian Railways

This incident underscores a persistent problem within Indian Railways where passengers with unreserved tickets often occupy seats in reserved compartments due to overcrowding in general coaches. This practice not only causes inconvenience but also undermines the experience of passengers who have paid for reserved seating. The situation calls for effective measures to ensure that reserved seats are respected and that passengers receive the service they have paid for.
