Pakistani actress and model Humaira Asghar Ali was laid to rest in Lahore, nine months after her death. Her decomposed body was discovered earlier this week in her Karachi apartment. The funeral, held in the Model Town locality, was a subdued affair attended by only a few individuals. Initial police investigations have not indicated any foul play in her demise.
Humaira’s family initially refused to accept her body due to strained relations after she entered the entertainment industry. However, her brother Naveed Asghar later arrived in Karachi to claim her remains. He explained that Humaira had distanced herself from the family after moving to Karachi seven years ago and had not visited them for over a year and a half.
The post-mortem revealed that Humaira’s body was in an “advanced stage of decomposition,” with major organs reduced to an unidentifiable mass. Forensic experts noted that parts of the body were devoid of muscle tissue, and bones disintegrated upon touch. The report also mentioned the presence of insects, which may help determine the environmental conditions where she lay undisturbed.
Due to the severe decomposition, the exact cause of death remains undetermined. DNA profiling and toxicology tests are underway to provide more clarity. The discovery of her body followed a complaint by her landlord over unpaid rent, leading police to enter her apartment.
The timeline suggests that Humaira likely passed away around nine months ago. Her last known communication was a phone call made in October 2024. Electricity to her apartment was cut off around the same time due to non-payment, and there were no backup power sources available.
The lack of occupants on her floor meant that neighbours did not notice any odour from her apartment. When some residents returned in February, any smell had dissipated. Investigators found expired food and rusted jars in her home, further supporting the timeline of her death.
Humaira began her career in 2015, appearing in television shows like Just Married and Ehsaan Faramosh. She also featured in films such as Jalaibee (2015) and Love Vaccine (2021). In 2022, she gained recognition on the reality show Tamasha Ghar and received an award for Best Emerging Talent & Rising Star at the National Woman Leadership Awards in 2023.
