Suspect Identified in Pennsylvania Trooper Ambush

The suspect involved in the ambush of two Pennsylvania state troopers has been identified as 61-year-old Carmine Faino. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon in a rural area of Hompson Township, Susquehanna County. After failed negotiations, Faino was shot and killed by a special response team, according to Pennsylvania State Police Colonel Commissioner Christopher Paras.

Details of the Ambush and Response

Troopers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 11:20 a.m. following reports of gunfire. The initial call was made by the boyfriend of 57-year-old Lori Wasko, who had been fatally shot near her vehicle. Upon arrival, Trooper Joseph Perechinsky and Trooper William Jenkins were ambushed from a distance, each sustaining multiple gunshot wounds. Despite his injuries, Perechinsky managed to apply tourniquets to Jenkins’ arms.

Emergency Response and Perimeter Setup

The troopers’ vehicles were heavily damaged by gunfire, prompting additional officers to evacuate the injured troopers. An EMT named Carl Lawson also became a victim when his vehicle was fired upon, causing him to crash and sustain injuries. He is currently in stable condition. Law enforcement agencies established a perimeter around Faino, who allegedly shot down a drone deployed during the standoff. Concerns arose when Faino was seen sitting on a propane tank, raising fears of potential explosive devices.

Resolution and Aftermath

Despite attempts to negotiate, Faino remained a threat and was ultimately shot by police. Both injured troopers were airlifted for medical treatment and are reportedly recovering. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro expressed his support for the troopers and their families, while other officials, including Rep. Dan Meuser and Sen. John Fetterman, shared their condolences and support on social media.
