Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the eagerly anticipated Yellow Line of the Bangalore Metro and the Vande Bharat Express train connecting Bengaluru and Belagavi. This significant event is scheduled for Sunday, marking a pivotal moment in the city’s transportation infrastructure development.
During his nearly four-hour visit, PM Modi will participate in three major events. He will arrive at HAL Airport at 10:30 am and proceed via helicopter and road to KSR Bengaluru railway station. Here, he will flag off the Vande Bharat Express train service between KSR Bengaluru and Belagavi. Additionally, he will virtually inaugurate two more Vande Bharat Express trains on the Amritsar-Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Katri and Ajni (Nagpur)-Pune routes.
Following this, PM Modi will travel by road to RV Road (Ragigudda) metro station on the Yellow Line. Between 11:45 am and 12:50 pm, he will officially launch the Yellow Line (Reach 5) and take a metro ride to Electronic City station. This new line, part of Bangalore Metro Phase-2, spans over 19 km with 16 stations and is valued at approximately Rs 7,160 crore. The operational metro network in Bengaluru will expand to over 96 km, significantly alleviating traffic congestion in key areas such as Hosur Road and Silk Board Junction.
PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone for Bangalore Metro Phase-3 at the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Bengaluru. Known as the Orange Line, this phase will cost an estimated Rs 15,611 crore and cover more than 44 km with 31 elevated stations. It aims to meet the city’s growing transportation demands across residential, industrial, commercial, and educational sectors.
Phase 3 will feature two corridors: JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura (32.15 km) and Hosahalli to Kadabagere (12.5 km). These developments are expected to enhance connectivity and ease commuting challenges for Bengaluru’s residents.
